J’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 honor\u00e9 par votre demande pour c\u00e9l\u00e9brer un moment historique qui a donn\u00e9 un nouveau d\u00e9part Tunisien et inspir\u00e9 le monde entier. Bien que je ne pourrais pas vous rejoindre, je transmets mes f\u00e9licitations au peuple et au gouvernement de la Tunisie.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Depuis la r\u00e9volution, la Tunisie a trac\u00e9 un chemin historique. Je f\u00e9licite des progr\u00e8s qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 faites dans la derni\u00e8re ann\u00e9e, de terminer les premi\u00e8res \u00e9lections cr\u00e9dibles et d\u00e9mocratiques de l’histoire tunisienne, \u00e0 la formation d’une Assembl\u00e9e constituante qui s’est engag\u00e9 \u00e0 la poursuite de la r\u00e9forme \u00e9conomique et politique. Dans l’ann\u00e9e \u00e0 venir, je me r\u00e9jouis \u00e0 la r\u00e9daction d’une constitution qui consacrera la dignit\u00e9 et justice pour tous les Tunisiens. La Tunisie a d\u00e9j\u00e0 accompli beaucoup de choses, et j’ai une grande confiance dans la capacit\u00e9 de l’Assembl\u00e9e constituante de rester sur la bonne voie et de cr\u00e9er une d\u00e9mocratie inclusive dans laquelle tous les Tunisiens sont repr\u00e9sent\u00e9s et une partie du processus de r\u00e9forme.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

L’exp\u00e9rience de l’Am\u00e9rique me rappelle chaque jour que la d\u00e9mocratie est un voyage a continu\u00e9 de parfaire notre union. Je reste inspir\u00e9e par les progr\u00e8s de la Tunisie sur ce chemin, et je suis confiant que vous allez atteindre une d\u00e9mocratie qui refl\u00e8te la riche histoire de la Tunisie, conserve l’humanit\u00e9 de la r\u00e9volution, et r\u00e9alise un grand potentiel de la Tunisie. Dear Mr. President:<\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you for your invitation to commemorate the first anniversary of the Tunisian revolution. I was honored by your request to celebrate a historic moment that gave Tunisians a new beginning and inspired the world. Although I could not join you, I convey my congratulations to the people and the government of Tunisia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the revolution, Tunisia has charted a historic path. I welcome the progress that has been made in the past year, from completing the first credible and democratic elections in Tunisian history, to forming a Constituent Assembly that is committed to the pursuit of economic and political reform. In the coming year, I look forward to the drafting of a constitution that will enshrine dignity and justice for all Tunisians. Tunisia has already accomplished much, and I have great confidence in the ability of the Constituent Assembly to stay on track and create an inclusive democracy in which all Tunisians are represented and a part of the reform process.<\/span><\/p>\n

America’s experience reminds me daily that democracy is a continued journey of perfecting our union. I remain inspired by Tunisia’s progress on this journey, and am confident that you will achieve a democracy that reflects Tunisia’s rich history, retains the humanity of the revolution, and realizes Tunisia’s great potential. The United States will remain a friend and partner to Tunisia as we continue to walk the path of democracy together.<\/span><\/p>\n
